Putting on the brakes in Online Poker

The game of poker is one which is fun, entertaining and it offers those who play it plenty of financial incentives. On the other hand though not everybody who plays the game can be the winner and when you aren’t the pot winner you stand to lose considerably. The game of poker can be a very addictive one especially for those with the traits of an addictive personality. Alot of people who play poker have enough self control to simply play for an hour of two and then stop. Unfortunately there are also alot of people who find it alot more difficult to call it a night and walk away. For these people the act of setting themselves a limit of money gambled and amount of time spent playing is a necessity, just setting a limit such as this is not enough though as the player must also adhere to this set limit rather than just play one more hand which quickly becomes 5 or 6 without the player even realising it.

How do I do it?

There are various ways in which a player can set themselves a stop limit. The goals you have set yourself in your life and other aspects in your life, especially your financial status, are all things which need to be considered when setting yourself a limit for poker. A time limit can be made so that it limits the player to just a couple of hours per day or so rather than spending all day every day at the poker table. When your time expenditure at the poker table is not really much of an issue then the best issue to base your limit on is money, whether it be that you set yourself a limit at which to stop once you have lost that set amount of money or a limit of your winnings. There are many people who have walked into a casino with say $1,000 and won themselves more than double what they came with only to walk out with less than what they had to begin with because they were not able to stop themselves when the going got good and the cards were in their favour. It is important to remember that lady luck is not always on your side and there is only so much she can do for you.

The facts

Although there are millions of poker playing online poker and casino poker the majority of poker players are not professional players and yet a large portion of these players like to play as though they are in fact, pros. Poker can easily take over a players life. Allowing yourself to become addicted to the game will cost you more than just money. Family and marriage breakups occur often as a result of a poker addiction. Stop limits are one of many things that a player can do in order to help poker remain as an entertaining, useful and enriching part of their lives rather than a destructive one.

Is that it?

Just setting yourself a limit on its own is not enough; rules are no good to anybody if they are not properly enforced. Once you have set yourself a particular limit at which to stop it much be implemented into your playing immediately otherwise there is a high likelihood that you will put it off until tomorrow, then the next day, continuing to do so until the limit is just a distant memory.

When setting yourself a time or financial limit and adhering to it, hold your head up high, stand tall and be proud of yourself. Self control is a trait of a person who is strong willed and able to resist temptation, it is those who simply refuse to say no their gambling addiction who are the weakest links.
